This maisonette apartment in Prenzlauer Berg was created by adding a floor to an existing building from the 1920’s. As with many investor projects, the design of the project was aimed at optimized floor plans, but not necessarily at creating aesthetically pleasing spaces. The window formats adopted from the old building appeared too narrow in the „Upper Deck“ of the newly build level. The fantastic view over the roofs of Berlin was not at all perceivable. In the “Lower Deck” the master bedroom was disproportionately large, while the bathroom had o natural light or ventilation. Both deficits were eliminated through the renovation: A spacious sliding door now invites the Berlin sky into the apartment. By moving the bathroom to the outside facade it is naturally lit and ventilated. In addition space was created for a dressing room.
