Box Out East

The existing house, which is used as a weekend home by a family of five, simply became too cramped when the children were getting older. The house was expanded to include three new volumes: - A bedroom dormer inserted into the existing roof - A living room, connected to the existing kitchen - A terrace “void space” defined by wooden frames. The wooden structure floats above the hilly site, separated from the ground by individual concrete foundations. Despite its independence, the new building forms a spatial unity with the existing building. Generous window openings allow the view onto the vast Uckermark landscape.
