Das Haus am See

Located in a landmarked district the building was badly damaged during the war.Its original appearance was greatly changed due to partial demolition and additions. During the 80’s a new glass extension on the street facade served as a showroom for a motorcycle dealer. The historic facades were now carefully reconstructed. However, the interior speaks a different, modern language. The new steel construction as the main load-bearing structure opens up spacious rooms both on the ground floor and in the attic. Unlike the historic building, the house now focuses entirely on the lake. The stair railing in the heart of the house was preserved as a historical reference as the only original component. But the direction of the stair was flipped and now also faces the lake view when reaching the upper floor. The door handle of the entrance door, the interior doors, the window handles for the small windows, the installation pattern of parquet, the mix of terrazzo stones, the built-in furniture, the bathroom furniture - all these details and design elements were designed and manufactured specifically for this house.
